To Die For

I have been dying to try my hand at decorating macarons and I figured that Halloween would be the best time to try. It could be messy did not have to be precise. That is how these brain and eyeball macarons came to be. I used Royal icing for defining the brain and an edible marker for the blood. I went EVERYWHERE to find red food gel coloring but of course it was no where to be found. It was a week before Halloween after all. I must have been crazy to think that I could find red food gel coloring that close to the holiday. IMG_7716For the eyeballs I used strictly edible markers. What I liked the most about this experiment was that mistakes made them great! With macarons so many things play a factor in the making process. The humidity has to be just right. The temperature of the oven has to be precise and it’s different with every oven. The ingredients have to be measured exactly to the gram. I made sure to cross every T, but that did not matter the shells still cracked. Instead of tossing the shells I took it an ran with it. Those cracked shells gave me the best canvas to create my #bloodybrainmacarons .

For the filling I choose to stay in the October spirit and made it pumpkin spice. I added pureed pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice to my buttercream base. I also used #cakecraft gel food coloring in Ruby Red. IMG_0258IMG_7019

Thanks for checking in! Till next time. XOXO Care
